- Mitigations and resistances have been consolidated.
- Ranged and melee attacks fall under Physical Mitigation except when they have a damage type such as Shadow, Flame, Frost, Acid, or Light.
- All tactical attacks and all attacks with damage types such as Shadow, Flame, Frost, Acid, or Light fall under Tactical Mitigation.
- Some deeds that gave +2 to a given virtue now only give +1.
- Some deed give +1 to two different virtues.
Finishing a deed in LOTRO grants Virtues, Turbine Points, Titles, Reputation, Emotes, or Items depending on the deed. Not everyone enjoys grinding deeds, but everyone appreciates the rewards. If you don’t like doing deeds, then don’t do them. If you get bored doing deeds, then take a break and do something else. Some of the title and emote deeds are hidden deeds that only show up in your deed log AFTER you complete them (kinda bullshit if you ask me, but that’s the way it is).
If you are looking to upgrade your Virtues:
- Find out which Virtues are preferred for your class. Ask other players in game, get opinions of people you respect, or research on the forums if you need help deciding on which Virtues you want.
- Go to Burgzerg.com and find out which deeds give out the Virtues you are seeking and which zones they are located in. Some zones will have more than one deed giving out the same Virtue and some deeds give out more than +1 to a given Virtue.
Before heading out to do a deed session:
- Empty your bags of everything you can. You’ll want a lot of room, so you don’t have to return to town as often to sell things.
- Get out-of-combat regen food for power and morale to make grinding go faster. There are inexpensive regen foods available from Reputation Vendors if you have Acquaintance rep. They have a longer duration than normal food (20 min). For example, Traveller’s Turnovers from the Wardens of Annuminas, or the Traveller’s Scone from the Iron Garrison Guards.
- Team up with someone doing the same deed if you can. This can make deed-grinding go a lot faster.
- Consider buying a deed accelerator. I personally only use these on the Elite mob slayer deeds.
Deeding Etiquette
- Don’t steal somone else’s mobs.
- Don’t tag a bunch of mobs and then try to scrape them off on someone in another part of the area who happens to be using AOE attacks.
- Avoid killing Named mobs (except ones that state Rare in their tooltip – those are shard droppers) because it is probably required for a quest.
- Don’t send blind invites. If there is someone else hunting in the area, /tell them to see if they would like to join you for your grind.
- If you are grouped with others doing the same deed, stay until everyone in the group is finished with the deed.
Geek Girls’ Commandments
- Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s 20-sided die.
- Thou shall not coyly mention your female status in forum posts, lest thee be courted for photographs of your bazooms.
- Thou shall not begrudge non-geek women for entering the geekdom; for by increasing our numbers shall our collective strength grow.
- Thou shall represent all of girl geekdom when attending conventions, shopping at comic book stores, and cosplaying.
- Thou shall not exclude thy non-geek friends from thy social life, for when thou shall seek to convert, to whom shall you preach?
- Thou shall defend any geek that requires assistance, even if she is of the Trek persuasion and you have pledged your allegiance to the Wars.
- Thou shall listen to the word of nerd as geeks from other faiths share their messages.
- Thou shall not feel shame for not looking exactly like a character while cosplaying, for screen-accurate uniforms rarely obey the laws of physics.
- Thou shall respond with thanks to all who accuse you of doing something “like a girl.”
- Thou shall not fake knowledge in geeky area, for thou shall be found out and rightfully smote.
In the name of the Scully, the Connor, and the holy Ripley, Amen.
Geek Girl Bill of Rights
- I have the right to be taken seriously for my interests and not be accused of getting into video gaming, comic books, science, or other traditionally male-dominated geek interests to impress a guy.
- I have the right to enjoy non-geeky things without losing geek cred.
- I have the right to send angry emails to retailers that only offer geeky shirts in men’s styles and sizes.
- I have the right to bare arms, abs, and legs. I can dress as any superhero I want to without being touched, harassed, or being accused of inviting sexual advances. I also understand that dressing provocatively will draw attention, and I will deal with unwanted but harmless attention with class and dignity.
- I have the right to enjoy all geek movies, whether they have strong and interesting female characters or they don’t even pass the Bechdel Test.
- I have the right to sneak geek books into formal occasions in case things get dull.
- I have the right to use my feminine wiles to my advantage without being a tease or a jerk.
- I have the right to stand up for myself when my geekiness is mocked. I also have the right to walk away from the situation if I don’t think the bully is worth my time.
- I have the right to cut and dye my hair to match whatever character I am cosplaying, and I have the right to totally botch the job once or twice before I get it right.
- I have the right to engage in heated debates about geek topics without personal attacks or holding grudges.
- .I have the right to select male video game characters whenever I wish. My gender shouldn’t automatically limit my choices. (Jill Tooley)
